When the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board passed a law limiting parking to two hours at rest areas more than 20 years ago, Martin Krebs said the intent was not to force tired truckers back out on the road, but to discourage people from sleeping inside the facilities. And although the time limit is still on the books, Krebs, who is the special facilities financial manager for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said the “unwritten guidance” his agency has given to the Virginia State Police, who patrol the rest areas, is to “be as lenient as possible in enforcing the time limit.”More>> http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2009/Feb09/021609/021809-03.htm
Somebody forgot to tell the officers who are checking the rest areas to lay off the truckers. I got my tires marked after being there 2 1/2 hours. On one hand I'm glad there in there checking on things. But we need to sleep where ever and whatever we need. I personally think we truck dreivers should be given full authority to sleep we feel its neccessary as long as it not permitting another to pass or endanger somebody. -Penguin
